The «Rainbow Shine» Dneprpetrovsk Regional Charitable Organization Research and Information Report for January, 2013

THE "HEALTHY CHILD” PROGRAMME

 

The "I Want to Live” Project

We helped ten critically ill children:

- Valeria Shtych (CCP) – a rehabilitation course in Novoazovsk "Zdorovie” Medical rehabilitation centre was paid for to the amount of UAH 5,200;

- Olga Marchuk (traumatic brain injury, lung laceration and spleen rupture) – medcations were given to the amount of UAH 2297.09;

- Kristianna Asmus (hydrocephaly) - medcations were given to the amount of UAH 989;

- Aleksandr Kuzmin (spinal tumor) – medications were given to the amount of UAH 1056.75;

- the Nikolenko’s children (epigenetic diseases, folate cycle enzymes deficiency) – laboratory tests were paid for to the amount of UAH 500;

- Aleksandra Nikitina (nephroncus) – provided with medications to the amount of UAH 200;

- Mark Nesteruk (anal atresia) - provided with medications to the amount of UAH 689.10;

- Margarita Belaniuk (CCP) - a rehabilitation course in Novoazovsk "Zdorovie” Medical rehabilitation centre was paid for to the amount of UAH 1,345;

- Dmitrii Shevchuk (CCP) - a rehabilitation course in Truskavets International rehabilitation clinic was paid for to the amount of UAH 6,500.

The "Modern Hospital” Project

The newborn anaesthesiology and reanimation department of the Dniepropetrovsk regional children’s clinical hospital got medical supplies to the amount of UAH 6394.32.

The Dniepropetrovsk regional children’s hospital surgery unit (patient capacity of 40, including 10 beds for cancer patients) was provided with medicine to the amount of UAH 2534.75.

The pulmonology unit of Dniepropetrovsk regional children’s clinical hospital got three oil heaters and a fan heater to the amount of UAH 1,417.

The newborns’ pathology unit of the Professor Rudnev children’s clinical hospital got medicine to the amount of UAH 5126.50.

The "You Are not Alone" Project

 

We provided abandoned children in hospitals with food, medicine and hygiene products:

- The newborns’ pathology unit of the Professor Rudnev children’s clinical hospital got medicine to the

- the premature babies unit No 6 of the city children’s clinical hospital No 6 got medicine to the amount of UAH 307.81;

- infectious disease department No 7 of the city clinical hospital No 6 got medicine to the amount of UAH 786.60.

The "Give Joy to a Child” Project

Six art and laugh therapy sessions were held in The Dniepropetrovsk regional children’s hospital surgery department (patient capacity of 40, including 10 beds for cancer patients) during the month.

A special holiday performance was organized in the surgery department (patient capacity of 40, including 10 beds for cancer patients). The children were given presents to the amount of UAH 1,000.

THE "WORLD WITHOUT ORPHANS" PROGRAMME

The "I Need a Family" Project

 

During the period under review a visits was made to the regional institutions (on January 15, 2013) where some video materials about nine children were shot. The shootage was given for editing

As on Februaury 01, 2013 72 children whose media profiles had been placed on the «Mediapassport» website found their families, among them 11 children with special needs.

Now there are 161 children’s profiles on the website. These children are looking forward to be adopted.

The "Parents' Club" Project

Four mutual aid group meetings for foster parents took place in January. 24 people took part in them. The meetings were facilitated by the psychologist. The problems that were discussed during the meetings had been chosen by the participants themselves. Thus, the following topics were discussed:

Parents motivation for fostering a child;

"What kind of parents are we?” Foster parents’ goal and dreams;

The child’s ?misbehaviour’: thefts, overeating;

"We want to be the ideal parents”;

Affection development

The project legal adviser was invited to the meeting at the participants’ request. The questions which the parents asked the lawyer were about foster children’s accommodation after they leave their foster families, and public utility payments. Besides, they dealt with a question of foster families and family type children’s homes prosecutor’s investigations and social services inspections legitimacy, as well as the ways of preventing infringement of both foster parents’ and children’s rights.

Two Parents’ Club offsite meetings were held in January. On January 06, 2013 a meeting in Petrykivka village took place where the prospects of the Dneprpetrovsk Regional Charitable Organization the «Rainbow Shine» and district social service for children, youth and family affairs cooperation in providing services for the district foster families and family type children’s homes. On January 08 the meeting initiated by the district social services centre took place in Krynychky village. The meeting in which a foster father from Dnepropetrovsk district A.N. Pinchuk and a foster mother from Dnepropetrovsk took part, was devoted to the problems of the foster parents and educational institutions’ interaction in the process of children’s upbringing. The meeting consisted of two parts. The methodic associations’ leaders and homeroom teachers took part in the first part of the meeting. Each Krynychky district school had sent its representatives to the meeting. There was an open, fierce and straight discussion. They talked about the difficulties of foster children socializing, about the importance of a good homeroom teacher for a foster child, about the role of schools in general and teachers in particular in developing the foster children’s skills and foster parents’ support. The Krynychky district foster parents participated in the second part of the meeting.

As part of the Parents’ Club activities two meetings with the would-be foster parents took place in January. The applicants were given training in Dnepropetrovsk city and regional social service centres. The meetings topic was: "What future awaits for a family when a foster child enters it?”

In January nine visits were made to the foster families and family type children’s homes that had asked for financial and psychological support.

22 individual consultations on different matters were given in January, too. Among them:

- housed by the Dneprpetrovsk Regional Charitable Organization the «Rainbow Shine» - 8;

- domiciliary – 10;

- at the mutual aid group meetings (after the group work was finished) – 3;

- via Skype – 1.

On January 11, 2013 the Fourth Christmas meeting of the Dnepropetrovsk region foster families and family type children’s homes took place. The event was held in Dnepropetrovsk State Academic Opera and Ballet House. A lot of happy people - 162 families - gathered in the theatre on that day, one could easily tell that looking at their kind eyes and smiles. Friendly volunteers and clowns, Father Frost and Snow Maid were greeting them at the entrance.

And what a fete is it if there are no guests! Metropolitan of Dnepropetrovsk and Pavlograd Irenei, Dnepropetrovsk region vice-governor Maria Ivanovna Pustovaya, regional council chairman deputy Vladimir Alekseevich Pavlov, Dnepropetrovsk regional state administration office of children’s services head Nina Grigorievna Tutova, Dnepropetrovsk vice-mayor Yelena Valentinovna Lozenko, Dnepropetrovsk city council office of children’s services head Alla Vladimirovna Litovchenko, deputy’s assistant Larisa Grigorievna Polupanova, Director of Dnepropetrovsk branch of "Forex Club” company Aleksei Kozhemiako, "Linda Pharm” group of companies representative Irina Rastikhina, head of Dnepropetrovsk eparchy UOC social service and charity department archipriest Vladislav Dikhanov, and "Shag” Computer Academy director Vladimir Durasov came to congratulate the Christmas Meetings participants.

Dnepropetrovsk region governor Dmitrii Valerievich Kolesnikov and Regional council chairman Yevgenii Grigirievich Udod sent flowers and greetings to the Christmas Meetings participants and organizers.

And soon there came a triumphant moment of the Dnepropetrovsk region best families awarding! We honoured those who could be called Families with a capital "F”. it was very difficult to decide who deserved the award more. Any family deserves it just for the fact that the parents have once thought about the children who need love and care. And yet, the expert jury had made its choice.

So , meet the winners:

- "Discovery of the year” – Ilia Anatolievich and Svetlana Anatolievna Gridins’ foster family (Leninsky district of Dnepropetrovsk);

- "Skillful Hands” – Andrei Viktorovich and Natalia Nikolaievna Levchenko’s family type children’s home (Nikopol district);

- The sporty family of the year” – Yurii Ivanovich and Tatiana Nikolaievna Chernous family type children’s home (Petropavlovka district);

- "The Artistry of the year” - Yelena Mikhailovna Yurchenko’s family type children’s home (Krivoi Rog);

- "The Good Mangers of the year” – Oleg Vladimirovich Ivakhnenko and Liubov Vasilievna Prilutskaya’s family type children’s home (Tomakovka district);

- "Mercy of the year” – Yelena Alekseevna Kagadii’s foster family (Industrialnyi district of Dnepropetrovsk);

- "IQ of the year” – Tamara Leonidovna Tsvetkova’s foster family (Zhovti Vody town);

- "The Travellers of the year” – Yelena Aleksandrovna Cherevko’s family type children’s home (Krynychky district);

- "The golden harp” – Vasilii Vasilievich and Yelena Ivanovna Derevianko’s family type children’s home (Industrialnyi district of Dnepropetrovsk);

- "The family of the year” – Vitalii Nikolaievich and Tatiana Leontievna Yerokhin’s family type children’s home (Tsarichanka district).

The Christmas meetings guests gave the families commemorative awards and presents. A fantastic winter fairy tale "Snow Queen” was a real surprise for everyone. According to Christmas traditions, the almighty power of love defeated darkness and cold.

But this wasn’t the last pleasant surprise. The performance was followed by Charity lottery draw and the photo contest winners rewarding. Unfortunately, not all the families were present. But the winners did get their awards.

Let us remind you that while the Christmas meetings were being prepared, we were holding a photo contest of family photos. The best photos were exhibited in the theatre foyer on January 11. And the winner was Andrei Ivanovich and Aleksandra Viktorovna Pashkov’s family type children’s home (Pervomaisk town).

Every Christmas meetings participant could buy a lottery ticket in the theatre foyer and thus help the disabled children. The money was collected for a special "Mercy Bus” aimed to transport the children with special needs. A special wheelchair lift and places for their fixation are provided in it.

As a result, the winners got their prizes: Martynenko foster family (Sinelnikovo), Kozunenko FTCH (Pervomaisk), Olkhovskaya FTCH (Apostolovo district) and Dudnik FTCH (Sinelnikovo) got the prizes from "Tex-Style” (Kyiv) and "Textile” (Dnepropetrovsk) companies; Chaika foster family (Pavlograd) got a magic stuffed friend and Ogly FTCH (Kryvoi Rog) got a blender – a thing that any housekeeper needs. We are grateful to all the charity lottery participants. 1,240 hryvnias was collected for the "Mercy Bus”. We’ve made one more step on the way to our goal.

The "Cosines” Project

In January 2013 we helped the following families:

- Andronovs’ family type children’s home from Marganets was provided with children’s clothes to the amount of UAH 470;

- Barabash foster family from Apostolovo district was provided with humanitarian aid to improve the children’s living conditions. The family was given the metal-plastic windows to the amount of UAH 10,000;

- Vovk foster family from Verhnedneprovsky district was provided with humanitarian aid for purchasing the building materials to the amount of UAH 700;

- Derevianko foster family from Dnepropetrovsk was provided with clothes, diapers, pastry and toys to the amount of UAH 2,177;

- Valentina Nikiforovna Ionova’s family type children’s home from Dnepropetrovsk was provided with humanitarian aid for purchasing cots to the amount of UAH 18,000;

- Kopeiki family type children’s home from Dneprodzerzhynsk was provided with humanitarian aid for purchasing the building materials to the amount of UAH 10,000;

- Olkhovsky family type children’s home from Apostolovo district was provided the metal-plastic windows to the amount of UAH 10,000 to improve the foster children living conditions;

- Polischuk foster family from Sinelnikovo district was provided with humanitarian aid for purchasing the building materials to the amount of UAH 12,000;

- Shevchenko family type children’s home from Verkhnedneprovsk was provided with humanitarian aid for purchasing the building materials to the amount of UAH 10,000;

- Yurchneko family type children’s home from Krivoi Rog was provided with furniture to the amount of UAH 10,000 to improve the children’s living conditions;

21 families from Dnepropetrovsk region received plaids and linen to the amount of UAH 17,735;

206 foster families and family type children’s homes got sweets and personal hygiene kits.

The "Travellers’ Club” Project

On January 31 a special event was organized for 22 Baranov’s and Liskin’s family type children’s homes foster children. The children got an opportunity to have fan at the "Most-Ice” skating-rink, visit IGROLAND entertainment center and have dinner at "Puzata Khata” restaurant.

The "Give Way to the Gifted Children” Project

In January English classes were adjourned for the children of five family-type children’s homes from Dnepropetrovsk region (Ivanets, Ionova, Liskina, Dmitriakova, Shevchenko).

THE "STEP INTO THE FUTURE” PROGRAMME

The "Shoulder to Shoulder" Project

In January two boarding schools graduates (Bohdan D. and Artem D.) were provided with leagal advice.

- Artem D. was provided with humanitarian aid to the amount of UAH 1587.64;

- Nadexhda S. Was provided with clothes, diapers, toys, infant food to the amount of UAH 971.60;

- Tatiana K. Was provided with diapers and infant food to the amount of UAH 107.40;

- There are no publications (video) on the organization’s website.

 

"FOR LIFE” PROGAMME

Ten families who had found themselves in a hard situation were supported:

Lidia I. – a large family mother – was provided with children’s footwear, clothes and toys to the amount of UAH 1,510;

- Marina R. – a single mother – was provided with children’s footwear, clothes and toys to the amount of UAH 1,378;

- Olga A. – a large family mother – was provided with children’s footwear, clothes, toys and household detergents to the amount of UAH 800;

- Anna A. – a large family mother – was provided with children’s clothes to the amount of UAH 315;

- Natalia O. – a large family mother – was provided with babywalkers, children hygiene kits, children’s footwear, clothes and toys to the amount of UAH 1,460;

- Marina S. – a large family mother – was provided with children’s clothes to the amount of UAH 850;

- Alesia P. – a low-income mother who had found herself in a difficult situation, was provided with children’s footwear, clothes and toys to the amount of UAH 1,520;

- Oksana S. - a large family mother – was provided with children’s footwear, clothes and toys to the amount of UAH 1,740;

- Tatiana M. - a large family mother – was provided with children’s footwear, clothes, toys and household detergents to the amount of UAH 3,295;

- Galina S. – a low-income mother who had found herself in a difficult situation, was provided with children’s clothes and toys to the amount of UAH 980.

VOLUNTEER CENTRE

 

During the month the volunteers took an active part in the organization’s projects: organized support of children’s hospitals units, assisted in preparing and holding the organization’s events, gave art-therapy classes in hematology and surgery units of the regional children’s clinic hospital, translated the material for our website, wrote the articles, sorted the stuff in the warehouse, fitted and maintained the "hope boxes”, accompanied the children in camping tours and organized excursions, took part in photo and video shooting for the media.deti.dp.ua website.

As a whole, in October the volunteers worked for 931 hours.

On January 08, 2013 a press conference "Foster families and family type children’s homes are gathering at the Christmas meetings – 2013 on January 11” took place in "DNEPR-POST” media centre. DRHO "rainbow Shine” PR manager Irina Krasnopevtseva, Dnepropetrovsk regional state administration office of children’s services head Nina Grigorievna Tutova, the foster mother of Dnepropetrovsk district family type children’s home Baranova Maya Anatolievna took part in the press conference.
